Discovering Online ACLS Certification

For busy healthcare professionals, keeping up with training can be challenging. Whether it’s time constraints of working the night shift or taking care of family when they’re not at work, some individuals find it difficult to attend in-person emergency training courses such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Online training courses with 24-hour availability allow students to work at their own pace and set their own training schedule without putting their lives on hold. The three-part online ACLS certification Online can be completed in keeping with the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines to receive proper credentials.

The Basics
Understanding and being able to perform advanced lifesaving techniques are important skills. Some employers require it as part of everyday workplace operations, while others prefer to have their staff trained for situations where it is needed on an occasional basis. It is typically geared toward healthcare professionals directing or managing cardiac arrest and similar medical emergencies.

Taking Online Courses
Online ACLS certification is taught in three sections. The first part is self-paced instruction that goes over the proper protocols for treating patients, making decisions and acquiring skills needed for certain emergency situations. Virtual scenarios that could happen in real life are used for training sessions. The second portion features hands-on practice and use of skills learned. This can be done with a voice-assisted manikin system or with an instructor. Once the first two portions are complete, the student should be able to handle the third part, which is passing the skills test. If the course meets AMA requirements, the student may be eligible for an official certification card when all three portions are finished. Depending on the provider, students may be given up to 60 days to complete the second and third portions.

The training expands upon what was learned in CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS). Sessions focus on recognizing and managing cardiac and respiratory arrest, as well as pre-arrest symptoms. Also taught are related airway management, medication information and use, managing stroke and acute coronary syndromes, and how to effectively communicate with a team.

Updated Training
For those who have already completed acls certification training course online, keeping it current is important. Over time, procedures and the standard of care may change through discoveries in medicine and upgrades in technology. Knowing and understanding up-to-date techniques and guidelines can have life-altering effects.

Before and After
Before taking online ACLS classes, students should review what they learned in CPR and BLS. This helps to create a better understanding of the procedures and guidelines which are the basis of advanced training. After the course is complete, some providers offer access to course materials for up to two years.
